IT’S MY JOB TO SAVE THE WORLD. IT CAN BE YOURS TOO.
Peter Arnold directs the Sustainability Initiative for Chewonki Foundation in Wiscasset, Maine. Chewonki is an environmental education foundation. Mr. Arnold has a B.Sc. in Biology from Colby College and a MSW from The University of New England. He has three years of Peace Corps in his background and six years on the faculty of the Shelter Institute, an owner/builder construction school followed by five years as a contractor building passive solar homes. After earning an MSW he worked for ten years as a family therapist and organizational consultant. These jobs provided training in facilitating change at the personal, institutional and policy levels. Mr. Arnold’s current focus is on climate change and environmental sustainability, specifically, how to achieve the greatest amount of change possible in the way we do our energy business in the shortest amount of time. In 1998, he was hired by the Chewonki Foundation, to develop a new program area within their Center for Environmental Education called “Pathways to a Sustainable Future”. His focus is on how for profit workplaces and not for profit institutions can foster the necessary transition away from fossil fuels and toward a sustainable energy future.
