Tracy Gayton was born in 1958 and grew up in rural Pennsylvania and suburban Florida. He thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Piscataquis County, Maine in 1983, where he settled and lived until retiring in 2005. Starting work in banking at the age of 16, Tracy was a Vice President and Regional Manager of Bangor Savings Bank where he was employed for almost twenty years.
Active in the local community of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine he was a founding board member of Center Theatre and a board or committee member of Penquis Mental Health Association, Womancare/Aegis, Maine Highlands Guild and Piscataquis County Economic Development Council.
In recent years Tracy has been dividing his residency between Piscataquis County and Latin America.
