The Amarantos String Quartet was formed in Portland, Maine with the mission to reinvent the role of the string quartet in the modern cultural landscape. Through presentation of new music, unique collaborations and neverbeforeheard arrangements violinists Lauren Hastings Genova and Meagan McIntyre, violist/arranger Bryan Brash and cellist Hannah Schroeder are attracting new, diverse audiences to the chamber music genera. Classically trained, each member of the quartet has also performed extensively with musicians from a wide variety of styles such as jazz, rock, pop, folk, middleeastern, alternative and world music. These collective experiences are the basis for what makes the Amarantos Quartet and their diverse repertoire a truly unique experience.
In the short time since the group’s inception, Amarantos Quartet has performed at the PortFringe Arts Festival, Fryeburg Academy’s Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center, The Cold River Radio Show, Port City Music Hall, University of Maine, Space Gallery, Massachusetts General Hospital, Eastport Arts Center and numerous other venues across New England. From Mozart to Radiohead and Dvorak to Piazzolla, each Amarantos Quartet performance takes the listener on a new and unforgettable listening experience.
