Liz Neely Inventing Fabulation

  • 2013

As the Art Institute of Chicago’s Director of Digital Information, Liz Neely is preoccupied with imagining innovative ways to inspire people through the museum’s world-renowned art collection.

She played a leading role in re-envisioning digital scholarly publishing for museums with the Online Scholarly Catalogue Initiative, funded by the Getty Foundation, and introduced iPads in the museum’s galleries. Liz is the project director for a 2013 IMLS Sparks Innovation grant to experiment and study the use of 3D printing within the museum. As a strong advocate of the ‘Maker’ movement, she has also spearheaded collaborations that brought 3D printing and physical computing into museum programs and research activities.

She actively participates in the museum and education communities and is on the board of directors for both MCN and the New Media Consortium (NMC). She is also a co-founder of the Museum Digital Publishing Bliki, which was recently awarded ‘Best Museum Professional Web site’ from Museums and the Web 2013. Liz has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
