You may have seen Ian Harvie co-starring as “Dale” on the Golden Globe and People’s Choice Award-winning TV series TRANSPARENT; on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, or on CNN’s Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin.
A native Mainer now living in Los Angeles, Harvie was the first transgender (female-to-male) stand up comic in the in the country. He began his career in the Portland comedy scene over 13 years ago and has been breaking new ground ever since.
In spring 2014 with the help of friend and Executive Producer, Margaret Cho, Harvie unveiled his first ever 1-hour standup comedy special, IAN HARVIE SUPERHERO, which he came home to Maine to film live at Portland Stage Company. The film screened at over 25 film festivals worldwide and won (2) Best of the Fest and (1) Critics Choice awards.
Harvie’s unique approach queers the traditionally macho, sex-obsessed world of stand up in ways you won’t believe, unafraid to joke about subjects no other comedian has ever touched, and proving that laughter cuts across all gender identities and ultimately unites us all.
